Today we are living at a time when amazing medical advances seem very commonplace. From stem cell transplants to immunotherapy against cancer we are in a golden age of technological discoveries. The number and rate of progress that is being made against these disorders is as Andrew Lam, a surgeon from the University of Massachussetts Medical School, has recently stated that such progress is both inexorable and inevitable.
What does this mean for living every day?
1. That we are living longer – happier?
2. That we will avoid the worst of some diseases?
3. That we’ll face more years feeling lonely? Read my article about loneliness
To address these questions, I cite my book Under the Hat and recent research:
1. We are aware that we are living longer and many are blessed with added years. We must be grateful for good health every day, and not take it for granted.
Eat well – Exercise – and Speak to your own Brain.
First and foremost we must stay POSITIVE.
Florence – Under the Hat
Live in the Present Moment: do not let life slip through your fingers by living in the past or worrying for the future. Everyone has heard those old stories many times but they are always good reminders.
Listen to your own voice.
By living your life one day at a time, you truly live all the days of your life.
And more importantly be kind to yourself!
2. Boston University Brigham Young Hospital and Women’s Hospital scientists and clinicians are starting to uncover root causes of many of these disorders such as dementia and Alzheimers.
Working together and collaborating in the same labs, meeting regularly ; instead of what has been the normal method when each researcher or clinician would only be working with their own colleagues in their own specialties. This has seemed to be a success as many of the different scientists are finding similarities in different diseases that they were not aware of before.
I wrote this after reading an article in New-York Times in August 2023 and thought it brought good hopes.
Thank you for reading Under the Hat – Florence
