We don’t even need to actively look for new friends if we are receptive and open to others in our daily lives.
One day, I found a new friend who spotted me at the grocery checkout line asking me if I was going to have a party with all those yummy foods in my cart.
From that day on, Gaewyn has now become a good friend.
A friendly walk in the park
On this picture are two women I encountered just sitting in the sun at the park while I was walking on my weekly exercise.
I was careful to ask if I may take their picture. It refreshed me to see two friends enjoying a sunny day (not always in February in Washington).
Then, it happened that this woman was working at the local library on Bainbridge Island and knew my daughter!
While there are many ways of fighting Loneliness, some people still experience it – on page 156 of my book Under the Hat, I share some “Antidotes to Loneliness“:
– Find a new friend,
– Just talk to someone at the grocery checkout line,
– Get a pet,
– Share a house with an old friend,
– Play Scrabble with friends,
– Join a social club.
Did you know that the Bainbridge Island Senior/Community Center has:
– a photography club,
– movie nights,
– line dancing,
– pilates,
– gentle exercise,
– book clubs,
– bridge,
– pinochle, mahjong, and so much more.
So why be alone? If not on Bainbridge, try to find a center near you.
I hope to continue to bring informative articles to you on many topics. Please let me know what you are interested in and what you would like to hear from me.
