For more than 250 years our Constitution has set the standard for law and governance. Other presidents have pushed power boundaries, but recent actions went further. There were firings of civil government employees without clear notice, explanation, or justification.

Think of the families left uncertain about how they will pay the bills. Many had long careers protected by civil service rules based on merit. That protection is part of why people chose public service.
